The
La Salle-Griffon Project
Team
Currently, the Great Lakes Exploration Group, the Republic of France and the State of Michigan have an interest in the wreck site. In recognition of their shared interest, the three parties announced a cooperative agreement in July, 2010 - Press Release. The agreement, which represents a unique partnership between a foreign sovereign nation, a state of the U.S. and a private exploration group, allows assessment to proceed of what may be the final resting place of the historic Griffon.
The Center of Maritime & Underwater Resource Management (CMURM), which specializes in historic shipwrecks, will cooperate with Great lakes in conducting an archeological site assessment of the location. CMURM Director and Archeologist Kenneth J. Vrana is providing guidance in developing plans for the assessment phase. He and his CMURM team will analyze, interpret, and issue reports and recommendations on the assessment phase. Mr. Vrana is also actively facilitating cooperation between the Great Lakes Exploration Group and the University of Michigan.
